Birdhouse Contest

Village Wide Bird House Contest - judging scheduled for Third Friday May 16th.

The Tarrytown Beautification Foundation is sponsoring a Village Wide Bird House building competition for this spring. We hope to get a lot of interesting and unique submissions from our many artistic minded Village residents.

The rules are simple:

The entrance holes should be 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide and the birdhouse should be made of materials that will not amplify heat.

You can make it from scratch, or, if you have an existing bird house that you can remodel to make your own, that would be fine. Entries are to be submitted to Whimsies at 52 Main St. or Michael Christopher Antiques, 23 Main Street, no later than May 14th.

On May 16th, 3rd Friday, they will be put on display for all to admire. The display and judging will take place outside of Whimsies that night. Categories will include Most Unusual, Most Artistic, Best-in-Show and so on. Children under 13 will have there own competition.

The prizes are the Glory(the beautification foundation is a not for profit org). Winning entries will be displayed in various shops around town and eventually be placed on posts in Village parks for the birds to habitate.

So there you have it Tarrytown....go to the attic, dig into those boxes in the gararge, and look in the basement. Find unusual materials and let your imagination go wild. You’ll be surprised at what you can come up with!!

For those of you who are not feeling creative, we invite you to come stroll down Main St. on the Third Friday in May and admire all of the bird houses submitted.
