May's Third Friday Review

Well, it was good for ducks and the garden and that's all that can be said about Friday's weather! While we were forced to cancel the outdoor activities, for anyone brave enough to venture out of doors Third Friday was steaming along.

Main Street Sweets were kind enough to host story teller Jonathan Kruk who was equally entertaining spinning tales of local mystery to the tween set, or making up impromptu ice cream flavors with the under five's . The craft table could also be found inside Main Street Sweets, with this month's activity being color scratch book marks.

Y-Dance and The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers were to be found in the gym at the YMCA, dispensing fun, laughter and instruction to all comers.

Perhaps the biggest crowds of the evening were to be found at the Tarrytown Beautification Foundation's first annual birdhouse contest, in Main Street Firehouse. The entries were staggering in both quality and quantity! There were over 60 entries in three categories - Adult Birdhouse, Extreme Birdhouse and Children's Birdhouse. It was decided that all the Chilren's houses should be declared winners as it was impossible to decide between them.

The winners of the Adult section were as follows:

1st Place - the McLauren's for Neper-Wren House
2nd Place - Maria Wilmott for "A Little Old Birdie Who Lived in a Shoe"
3rd Place - Clarice Pollock for "The Main Street Firehouse"

The winners of the Extreme section were as follows:
1st Place - Greg Wilson for "The Bird Casino"
2nd Place - Alaric Young for "Music Hall for the Birds"
3rd Place - Ron, Marie and Rebecca Deblausey for "Waterbird Lodge"

Many of the houses will be displayed in storefronts along Main Street and are well worth a viewing. Many congratulations to all the participants and thanks to the Beautification Foundation and Main Street Firehouse for a great event.

Coming next month - June 20th, save the date, its the Pet Parade!
